Our February KCedu Meetup was full of useful and awe-inspiring collisions with KC educators, as usual! We meet at Kauffman Foundation the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 5:30-6:30, with an hour of additional networking/collision time built-in from 5:00-5:30 and 6:30-7:00. Thank you to Kauffman Foundation for the space each month and to Mozilla Gigabit Fund for help with food and booking.
Why regular monthly meetings: Conversation is key. We need to TALK with our fellow KC colleagues including folks in K-12, charters, parochial, non-profits and a multitude of other organizations. We need to talk with city leaders as well. Every strong city moves forward WITH education. This isn't just about teachers, but all people invested in making our kids' lives better.

Speaker #1 Paul Richardson and KCWORDSHOP
This week we heard about KC Wordshop from Paul Richardson. I first heard Paul speak at 1 Million Cups this past summer. I found myself fist-pumping when he shared his passion and his ideas for getting KC kids writing and expressing themselves through the arts.
Teachers will be able to take their students to KC Wordshop for immersive/experiential writing opportunities. In addition, if things work out, KC Wordshop would like to go to schools to cut costs for teachers. Paul Richardson, who teaches at Washington HS, knows how tough it is to arrange field trips.
One beautiful thing Paul and KC Wordshop started last year in KC was the Louder Than a Bomb KC poetry slam festival involving local high school kids.
Check out Louder Than a Bomb Chicago YouTube Video--2010. It will touch your heart.

Speaker #2 Carrie Markel and Project Brightspots
Carrie works to spotlight innovation and good stories in KC classrooms and schools so other teachers can read/learn about them and possibly use the ideas themselves!
Carrie is looking for teachers to post short stories from their classroom/school for one month. She is flexible and will work with you on posting in Project Brightspots! This project is a great way to share with other teachers and spread good news about education. Reach out to Carrie on Twitter via The Lean Lab or Project Brightspots to share and contribute to our growing KCedu community!
Register to be a member of Project Brightspots!
I invite you to CRASH your #KCedu meetups and check out our online presence on Twitter and Facebook. We're all about collisions, conversations, and action. Let's GET CONNECTED to bring excellence and passion in education to our kids, our families, and our beautiful KC community.
